a letter for my fellow discoverers .

dear vagabonds,

a wee question, from my heart to yours .

could it be ..
sometimes we expect too much? sometimes we anticipate an unfolding that wasn't meant to be .. & in turn, somehow our experience feels like a letdown?

like those travel commercials for expedia . the sky is blueblueblue & the people are wearing darling shades of pastels & their hair looks luxuriously silky & the beach is pristine & you can feel your body sigh, wanting to join them wherever the heck they are . perfection .

& then you arrive in hawaii to discover it rains for four days straight & the airline forgot your luggage somewhere in texas & your view is of the vending machine across the sidewalk .

phewy .

sometimes places are just not what we thought they would be .

a day trip . a weekend getaway . a long-awaited excursion by boat . a dinner party with people we've never met .

i'm going to propose that in these places: only by removing our expectations can we truly explore .

no expectations
.

a day .. a canvas, waiting to be marked in real time . with whatever that may be .

guess i'm just learning this the hard way .

in real time . in montana . a place i had a thousand expectations for & it didn't meet any of them .

i still have much to learn . & let go of .

your vagabond in training,

amy
